First of all happy new year to all... and to those who race have a great 2012 season!
Yesterday, Saturday, I competed in the Nation Cyclo-Cross championships in Ipswich. We (mum, dad & I) drove down in our trusty little ‘SUV’. It took longer than I thought but I slept most of the way so I was fine with it. When I got there it was a buzzing atmosphere.
From the very start, as we lined up and were put into order on the grid, I knew I wasn’t going to do great because I was starting at the back, and it was only my first season, but I would put a lot of effort in all the same. On the whole I really enjoyed it and it was an all round great experience for me. I had a great battle with my friend James (who first introduced me to cyclo cross). If you check out my video, he is the one behind me all the way ... but all credit to him, he took me in the last minute of the race – well done James!
I started doing cyclo-cross this winter simply to keep myself fit for the triathlon season. I got really into it and really enjoyed every second of the races! Hopefully, I have set myself up nicely for the rest of the year for the Duathlon, Triathlon and Quadrathlon races, starting with the next Wadenhoe Quadrathlon on 15th Jan.
I think my experience of cyclo-cross has been so great – just one more race in the Eastern region calendar. I can’t wait until next year where I can start this cycle all over again. I have met many nice people whilst doing these events. I would recommend the sport to anyone and everyone, especially the people down at Nice Tri. It would be a great new challenge, even if you don't have cyclo-cross bike, just do it on your mountain bike (or unicycle!)
I want to do some road races this year but pretty much all of them fall on the same day as work (Saturdays) so I will only be doing a few, but I will be doing as many triathlons as I can.
