Nearing the ‘end'

I’m nearing the ‘end’ of my triathlon season now, just the TriCrazy sponsored Galeforce Bedford Sprint this Sunday to go,

and then I have promised myself a complete week of nothing (as in training). It’s been a very long time since I’ve done nothing, not sure if I will cope! I haven’t been 100% over the last couple of weeks so I’m sure the ‘time out’ will be good for me.
Then it’s, bang, Cyclo cross season. I haven’t done this since February, so am really looking forward to it – it’s my main ‘keep bike fit’ thing. I’m feeling very positive about the out of season training I am planning. I am determined to put the training in and to see improvements when I compete next year. My swimming is improving and my swim coach is sorting out a great schedule for the next few months.

I have completed my ‘food diary’ and questionnaire paperwork with Insight Nutrition and after watching a documentary on the Brownlee brothers and what a huge part nutrition plays in their success, or should I say the right sort of nutrition! I am really looking forward to finding out how the right nutrition will affect my day to day training and race days.
I am exceptionally happy to announce that I will also be supported by The Sports Injury Clinic and more specifically Tony from the Huntingdon Branch. He has ‘worked on me’ a few times in the past, and am looking forward to taking on-board any advice that they have with regards to my (often growing) aches and pains!

Just a couple of events of note to report on:
London Youth Elite Race, again, for me a great experience, This is a very short race, not my distance really because my swim time means that I exit the water, somewhat 'behind' the superfast swimmers and because the bike leg is so short, 10k, it’s not far enough for me to make a big enough dent, saying that I did have the fastest bike split by around ½ minute! Comparing my time this year with last I was 3 minutes quicker, so all in all good.

VOTwo Dorney Lakes Triathlon. This was the last open water swim for me (Bedford is a pool swim) and it just shows that Adam’s training schedule and advice is paying off. 1½ minutes off my swim time from last year.
Dorney was the venue for the rowing and kayaking for the Olympics and the Paralympics. The site was still being cleared of extra seating and stuff so the bike route was longer to miss a lot of this. Despite the course being a few Ks longer and a bad head wind at times I was around the same time as last year, so pleased with it.

My run though, again has been my downfall. So if there’s a run coach out there that needs a ‘subject’ to work with, please get in touch!...please....

Quick update on booost

In my sport every second counts, I know this because I missed out on a podium spot after racing for 2 hours 50 minutes by 1 second! So I have chosen to use booost when I think it will be the most effective for me – in training. I find I am able to train harder, for longer and faster and recover quicker.
Being able to train better and smarter means that I compete better, simples..

Enjoy your sport.
