Phew a speedy recovery

Speedy recovery - after my last post, some people might have been wondering how I have got on... I was obviously 'disappointed' that I would miss out on being able to train and race for a while, so I did all the things I thought should of done to try and speed up the healing process...
  • Early nights (the body recovers while resting)
  • even dosed myself up with extra minerals and vitamins, (thought it might help, probably did!)
  • had lots of calcium (milk, cheese etc)
  • Ate well - it matters
  • No house work, ie no hoovering

Luckily, this wasn't me....
When I went back a week later to the fracture clinic, the doctor reassessed the Xray and showed me an area where it is very difficult to diagnose a fracture, apparently this area doesn't 'set until a bit later in life (18)
I came away with a very supportive splint, with the suggestion that I take it easy for a while, so I have (for me)

So a week later -My Grendon race report

This was a GB European Qualifier, It was great to see so many Nice Tri(ers) -my club there, many of them working hard to get a qualifying place to represent Great Britain in the European championships in Turkey next year. I was in the age group  15 -19 so went into the race with ‘limited’ expectations.
It was a large event, some 600 odd entrants, I had race number 2, I like to think number 1 went to a race favorite, and number 2 to the second favorite. Not really, think it just shows that I was the youngest. (Number 1 didn’t attend)
Anyway...
Good race, at the end, many said the swim was too cold and they didn’t like the bike... but I didn’t think the swim was cold; it actually wasn’t too bad... It was the biggest swim start I have ever been in and it was hectic!! Even after 400m I was still getting punched in the face and getting scrambled over.

And the bike course... ooh, now that was fun, although it had some tough ascents, but what goes up, must come down, I have to say I absolutely loved the descents, reaching speeds of around 38-40mph, then I don’t know how it happened but I found myself speeding along one road going around 35mph for ages, until I realized my legs are not going to survive for the run.

The run was a 2 lap, out and back... I was slightly disappointed with the run, but it just means I gotta get out there and TRAIN!!

Looking at the provisional results I came 3rd in my age category (chuffed) but due to a mishap with me not showing my 'intent' on wanting to represent GB in the Euros by a deadline on another website that I didn't know about. Seems I may miss out, It is the first four that would go to Turkey. Also it seems the two men who came in front of me will be out of the 15 -19 age group by the time of the event, so I effectively came first??!
We have submitted some  discretionary forms, we will see what happens......

The world qualifiers are being held in a couple of weeks, now that I know the procedure I have already registered my 'intent' - it's a learning thing!

Because the local river is in flood and a tad dangerous to swim in it was good to get an open water swim in at Box End last Saturday... oh that reminds me, The TriCrazy sponsored  Box end triathlon (off road) series starts on Thursday...!! Need to dig my cross bike out...!!
